Images on Google Earth have revealed some mysterious structures in the Gobi Desert, near an area that China has been using for its military, nuclear and space programs.

The structures include two mile-long reflective rectangles, an 18-mile long grid, a huge set of concentric circles with three jets parked in the middle, and a four-by-four square full of scattered debris.
The two rectangles are located 70 miles from the nearest main road and 400 miles from Ding Xian airbase, home of China’s secret aircraft testing program. The Lop Nur nuclear testing facility is located 400 miles in the other direction.
It’s not clear what the mystery structures are being used for, but they’re drawing comparisons to Area 51.
“The picture of the circle looks very like a missile test range, with target and instrumentation set out to record weapon effects,” said defense expert Tim Ripley.
Other possibilities suggested on Chinese social network Baidu include solar energy facilities and, of course, a concealed alien base.
